Global Shapers – Luxembourg 2018
Applications are open now to join the Luxembourg City Hub of the Global Shapers Community. Apply now — deadline to receive documents is 30/04/2018 midnight (Luxembourg city).
What is Global Shapers?
The World Economic Forum established Global Shapers as a network of extraordinary young people in their 20s who are exceptional in their potential, their achievements and their drive to contribute to their communities. They represent all walks of life and share a spirit of entrepreneurship in the global public interest. The aim of the Global Shapers is to trigger improvement of the state of the World starting from a local scale. Practically means to have an impact on the local community in the areas that every Shapers care about the most.
The Community works as a platform enabling all its Shapers to meet, collaborate and work together on the topics that matter most to them. There are hubs in more than 400 cities around the world, counting 6000+ members.
Who are we?
The Luxembourg Hub is a non-political, self-selected, and self-organized association composed of a group of people diverse in demographics, geographical areas, and sectors, but united by a common desire to shape the future and build a more inclusive world.
We are start-uppers, designers, students, lawyers, consultants, film-directors, public servants and much more, all with an entrepreneurial spirit, leadership potential and a desire to improve the state of the community in Luxembourg and beyond.
When you ask Luxembourg Shapers about the benefits of membership, the first answer is invariably about the other people involved. Whatever your passions and ambitions, there will be members of the hub who share and complement your interests. Shapers is not about superficial networking; real friendship is the foundation of what we do and why it works.
Practically, becoming a Shaper means the ability to have more impact in the areas that you care about. Among our latest initiatives, the “Europe’s Female Founders”, a series of meetups where female VCs, founders and CEO provide advice on launching a company; the annual “Street Store”, a pop-up clothing store for homeless people; the “Good Lobby” workshop, an event to learn how to lobby for change in your local community.
Aside from projects, the extraordinary convening power of both WEF and our own members allows us access to organize and attend events with world-class speakers and other participants. Moreover, membership of the hub provides access to engage with the broader World Economic Forum community, including the opportunity to apply to attend the WEF Annual Meeting in Davos and other major events.
What we are looking for
There are two basic eligibility criteria: you must be aged 20 to 32 (inclusive) on 1st May 2018; and you must live or work in Luxembourg or have sufficiently strong ties to Luxembourg to be able to fully participate in the hub’s activities.
Beyond this, we assess applications on four criteria:
Achievement: What this looks like will vary by age and sector. We’re looking for candidates who have established a track record of leadership and impact in their field.
Potential: Again, we calibrate potential depending on age and sector. We’re seeking people who can demonstrate potential to be real leaders in their fields.
Social motivation: A key part of the Shapers’ mission is to be a community that cares about having a positive impact in our communities and the world. We believe this can be manifested in many different ways, but we expect candidates to be able to articulate what they care about and how they make a difference (whether in their jobs or otherwise).
Commitment: An active membership is the lifeblood of the Luxembourg hub. We’re looking for individuals who want and are able to commit to engaging in the hub’s activities
If you have the time, energy, and desire to try to define an organization, create great projects, and work within a set of constraints, then we want to hear from you!
